My Library Card

I walked into the building and felt out of place as I looked around.
I hadn’t been in a place like this in a while.
I took a big inhale of air. It even had the smell that these places have. It brought back memories. It made me smile.
I excitedly walked up to the counter.

“Yes. I’m going to say something I haven’t said in a long time,” I said to the lady behind the counter.

“Whats that?” she said with a smile on her face.

“I need to get a Library Card.” I smile greatly.

She smiles back.

I was at the Warrior Public Library.
I asked if she was the Librarian, and she told me she was.
I didn’t know her name. So, for now, it would be “Ma’am.”

She asked if I lived in Jefferson County.
I told her that my mailing address was a Jefferson County address, and I handed her my driver’s license.

She explained that they had two different options:
Free Library Card for that location only
A $25 annual plan that allows me to go to any Library in Jefferson County.
For some reason, I asked if that included the Birmingham Library.
The Birmingham Library is Magnificant. I’ll get pictures when I visit it.

She said it did include the Birmingham Library.

“Yes,” I said excitedly, and I signed up for the 25$ Annual Plan.

If my local Public Library doesn’t have a particular book I want, I can search the other Libraries online and put a “Hold” on a book if I find the one I want.
A “Carrier” will then bring that “Held” book to my Local Public Library for me to check out.
I thought that was good.

They have six or eight computers for you to use and free Wi-Fi for everyone there.

The card catalog is now online.
I guess the days of going through the Card Catalog and flipping through all of the cards are gone. I will miss that. And at the same time, I’m happy about that.
It will be much easier to type in “The Catcher In The Rye” and press the Enter Key.

I introduced myself and asked several more pertinent questions.
She and I got to know each other a little bit. After all, she will be my official “Librarian,” and I wanted her to know a little bit about me, her customer.
And I wanted to get to know my Librarian.

The books get checked out for three weeks nowadays.
And they have other things, such as puzzles, that you can check out.

I asked if I could snap a few photos, and she said yes. Then, I paid my bill.
Next, I walked around looking and snapping a few photos.

And, before leaving, I bid my Librarian “Christy,” a good day.
