Publishers Clearing House

—Publishers Clearing House—

I won 2.5 Million and a brand new car from the Publishers Clearing House.

Yep. “Alan” called me on the phone today to notify me.

My Caller ID said “Tennessee” and nothing more.

“Hello?”

“Yes, this is “Alan” with the Publishers Clearing House calling to tell you that you’ve won 2.5 Million dollars and one free car today.”

He didn’t even sound enthusiastic about it. As a matter of fact, he sounded like he hated his job, his life, and his momma.

I respond in kind with a very boring-sounding, “yay…”

“Has anyone else called to tell you that you’ve won?”

“No… You’re the first, Alan…”

Alan goes into his pitch, and I decide to hang up.

“I gotta go, Alan. Bye-bye,” and I hang up.

Then, Alan called me back. I didn’t answer.
He called again, and again, I didn’t answer.
Altogether, he called me back six times.
This makes me wonder… What if I did win?

I walk into the living room and tell momma what’s going on.

“Give me the number, and I’ll call him back.”

I give her the number, and she calls Alan back.

“This is Alan; you’ve won 2.5 Million dollars today.”

Realizing that he didn’t say anything about the new car, I say to mom, “I guess you didn’t win the new car…”

Mom says to Alan, “This sounds like a scam,” and Alan hangs up on mom.

I guess I didn’t win 2.5 Million and a New Car after all.
