Spina Bifida Feet

People with Spina Bifida have to take special care of their feet.
Then, people with Diabetes have to take special care of their feet.
I have both.
My feet are atrophied and deformed. I basically cram my feet into my shoes.

A foot Doctor once told me that there is no Medical name for a Spina Bifida foot. He went on to say that Doctors treat the “Spina Bifida Foot” as a “Diabetic Foot.”
This was years ago, and Medicine may have changed since then.

My foot has very little feeling in it. I can feel the arch, though.
If I’m walking outside barefooted, which I’m not supposed to do, I can feel when I step on a rock if it goes up to my bone.
I have no problem feeling bone pain.

And about this time each year, the bottoms of my feet crack open.— sometimes needing stitches.
I don’t feel it at first.
Even if I moisturize and “Baby” my feet, they still crack open enough to cause my foot to sting when I walk. Once it starts stinging, I know it’s deep.
And that’s the point I’m at now. —Stinging when I walk.

I have put “Heel Repair” moisturizer on my feet daily. It hasn’t worked, though.
So, I’ve sent a message to my “PC Doc” through the Patient Portal asking him to refer me to a Foot Doctor. Preferably one that deals with “Special Patients.”

And that’s the latest Spina Bifida News on me.

Love you,

–Lynn
