Dinner 2/8/2023

Caution
I say that somewhat jokingly.
Some people may get grossed out by some of this Southern Cuisine.
And Cuisine it is.

We decided to get some Steamed Shrimp for dinner tonight.
I’m sure everyone reading this has had Steamed Shrimp, so that’s not the problem.

We were deciding on this around 11 AM this morning.

“Why don’t I go to the Piggly Wiggly, aka ‘The Pig,’ and get a few items to go with the Shrimp?”

Mom was good with that. Next, she and I discussed what I would buy.
We decided to get Corn on the cob. It goes well with Shrimp.
Then, I said I would just look around at “The Pig” and get something.

At the Pig, in the Seafood section, I looked over everything that was fresh and not frozen.
They had tons of fish, but I wasn’t after any fish. Fish doesn’t go with Shrimp, in my opinion.

Then, something caught my eye.
I inspected it closer and learned that it was only $5.74. “Ready To Eat,” the sign read.
“Mmm,” I thought as I looked at it.
I had never bought any and brought it home before. I’d only eaten it at restaurants—usually, a restaurant with a buffet.

“Crawfish! Ready To Eat! Only $5.74,” it said on the package.
I thought to myself, “twenty in total for $5.74, that’s not bad.”
So, I got some Crawfish to go with the Shrimp.
My family doesn’t call them Crawfish. We call them Crawdads.
You know, those creatures that pinch the fire out of you when you’re swimming in the creek. Crawdads. That’s what we call them.

Next, I saw something I couldn’t turn down.
I hadn’t had any in over a year. Oysters. Raw.
I love Oysters on the Half Shell.
Put one on a Cracker, add some Horseradish or Hot Sauce on top of it, and add a little salt to it. Mmm-mmm.
I’ve eaten fifty at one sitting at a bar on the beach—the oysters were fresh.

I picked the package up and inspected the oysters. They were big. They looked good.
I looked at the price…$13.99
“Wow! They’ve really gone up.” I thought. But I wanted them.

I then went and got the Corn on the cob and decided to get some Mushrooms to sauté.
I pushed my buggy to the front to pay for my merchandise.

So, for dinner tonight, we had:
Steamed Shrimp
Crawfish
Raw Oysters
Baked Potato – Stuffed
Corn on the cob
Sautéed Mushrooms with Onions

We melted butter and added Garlic to it for dipping.
We also had Cocktail Sauce and Horseradish Sauce.

The cooking was simple.
We had to cook the Baked Potato and boil the Corn.
We also had to sauté the Mushrooms. (It’s very simple.)
Everything else was “Ready To Eat.”

We laughed and talked a lot more tonight as we dipped the Shrimp into the butter and ate the Crawfish.

“Was it because of this food?” I thought.
—I could only wonder.
