A Beautiful Day

“Good Morning, Sunshine!” the employee at the local Dollar General says to me as I walk in.

I’m a regular at Dollar General.
So much so that they would think something was wrong if I didn’t show up for a few days. They might even report it.

“Good Morning!” I say back.

“Was the dip good?” She asks.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you. It was delicious. It’s like Nacho Cheese with all the flavors they have on the Chip.”

“Ohh, that does sound good.”

Doritos Chips have a Dip out now that goes with their chips.
The Cool Ranch Chip has its own dip, and the Nacho Chip has its own dip.
I had bought the Cool Ranch Chips and the dip and promised I would let her know how it tasted.

“I’m getting the Doritos Nacho Chips today, along with the dip that goes with them,” I tell her.

I get my items and make my way to the register.

She begins ringing me up, “It’s going to be a beautiful day today. Even if it rains, it will be a beautiful day.”

These are things I try to believe as well. No matter what it looks like outside, you make yourself happy, and you make each day a beautiful day.
At least, that’s what I try to do. It doesn’t always work out that way.

Well, let’s both have a Beautiful Day today,” I say to her and exit the store.
I go back out to the truck. Tommy looks at me as I walk out.
I get inside and crank up and pat Tommy on his head.
My phone rings.

“Hello?”

“Hey, I’m at your Aunts house. Can you ride by here to get ‘Cold Case’ on her TV?”

“I have ‘Tommy’ with me. Let me run him back home, and then I’ll drop by,” I say, and I head home.

Once home, I take in the groceries and decide to take the Doritos and Dip with me to my Aunts house. I figured we could all try it together.

Once at my Aunts, I hop out of the truck and walk up to her door.
I ring the doorbell and immediately feel something wet on my body.
I look down in time to see “Squiggy,” my Urostomy, pouring pee all over myself. The bag had burst.
In my mind, I looked like someone whose water had just burst.

My Aunt answers the door.

Staring down in disbelief at what has happened, I say, “…I…um,…gotta go home.”
My voice is shaking as I speak, and I know I’m seconds away from crying.

“Oh, honey. It’s okay.” She says while looking at what had just happened to her Nephew. “We’ll do this another day. Okay?”
She continues, “It’s okay, honey.”

Mom comes to the door.
“Oh, baby, let’s put a house coat on you to wear back home.”

“No. That’ll just dirty up the house coat. I’ve been in this situation before, and I know I just need to get back in the car and drive home with what I’ve got on.”
I walk back to my vehicle and get in.

On my way home, I try to keep myself from losing it.

“It’s going to be a Beautiful Day, ‘Lynn.'”

“What if I’d been at ‘Wal-Mart’?” I think to myself.

“What if I’d been in Church?”

“The thing just burst right there on her stoop…”

“Is it called a ‘Stoop?'”

I arrive back home.

I get out of my truck and begin retracing my steps back to my bedroom.
I’m looking for any drops of pee—anything to tell me if “Squiggy” had been “Malfunctioning” for a bit.
I see “drops.” Wet drops of “Something” about every 8 feet.

I follow them into the garage.

While in the garage, I grab some Lysol Wipes and follow the drops inside.

I see a drop and bend down to wipe it up with the Lysol Wipe.

Eight feet farther, I see another drop. Then another. And another.

“Squiggy leaked a good bit before it burst,” I say aloud. “I didn’t even notice it.”

“Beautiful day, my butt,” I say.

I get all the drops up, go into my bathroom, and get my clothes off.
I take a shower.

After the shower, I applied a new Wafter and Bag for Squiggy.

And now, I’m ready to get this day restarted.

Have a Beautiful Day.

Love you,

–Lynn
