Nite Under The Pavilion

—Nite Under The Pavilion—

I’m a bit late with my story about night two of the “Mayberry Meet-Up.”
For that, I apologize.
In my defense, it was a special night, and I had to think about it for a bit.

Our night-two of the “Meet-Up” got met with rain. Lots of rain. Torrential rain

Many of us went and got umbrellas and Ponchos and went back to sitting in our chairs, patiently waiting to see if our “Nite Under The Stars” was going to be “Called Off.”

Slowly, each one of us realized that the rain was here to stay.
So one by one, fellow “Mayberrians” got up and went back to their rooms until only I was sitting in my chair. I had my Aunt’s umbrella and had put a Poncho on.

Sitting in the field alone, I felt like “Mr. Schwump.”
Some waved at me, and I would smile and nod back to them.
Even I got up and went back to my room, though.
It looked like our “Nite Under The Stars” was ruined.

Then something happened.

Mr. Newsome had prepared for such an event.

He told everyone to get their portable radios out and tune to FM Station 93.7.
See, he had set his equipment up to broadcast the sound to FM Station 93.7.

Many people got inside their vehicle and pulled their car in front of the viewing screen. They then tuned in to 93.7 FM. It was much like a “Drive-In Movie.”

Many pulled their chairs outside their room and tuned their portable radio to 93.7 FM. They were able to see the screen from their room and hear the audio on their portable radio.

I went and sat under the Pavilion with twenty-four other people. (I counted)
Together, from our own viewing spot, we each watched “The Andy Griffith Show.”
The rain did not win; It didn’t keep us “Mayberrians” from getting together and watching “TAGS.”

While under the Pavilion, some passed around bags of Chips and Popcorn. One person brought a box of Peaches. Another brought bags of Peanuts.

Laughter was heard from Vehicles, motel rooms, and even us under the Pavilion as we watched “The Andy Griffith Show.”
It was a beautiful thing.

Yes, it was a special night, and I myself will never forget my “Nite Under The Pavilion.”

Thank you to everyone who made the “Mayberry Meet-Up” a success.
