Riding Around with Tommy

Throughout my life, I’ve had many pets. Mostly dogs.
One thing I’ve never tried is riding around with my dog in the vehicle with me.
I’ve taken my pets to the Vet or the Groomers.
But I’ve never ridden around with my dog as my Wingman.

Now, though, I have a friend who takes his dog everywhere he goes.
He always has taken his dogs with him on his road trips. He loves it.
He even finds “Pet Friendly” Hotels to stay at on vacation.

So, for several months, I’ve been thinking about taking my Dawg “Tommy” with me when I ride around the town. Short trips.

But, you know me, I think way too hard about things.
In my thoughts, someone complains that I’m being mean to my dog.
Some of my thoughts have been of him pushing the window down further and jumping out.
But, most of my thoughts end with me in jail.

Today, though, I pushed all those thoughts out of my mind and took my Dawg “Tommy” with me for several rides.

For the first ride, I put Tommy in the backseat.
I pushed all of the seats up and gave him the whole back floorboard.
I rolled the windows halfway down, put Bob Segar on, and went for a ride.

I think Tommy liked it. I really do.
He spent the whole trip looking out the back passenger side windows.

Then, I put him up front for our second trip.
Now, this is where all of my overthinking comes in. I figure the dog is not supposed to be in the front seat, and I will end up in jail for animal cruelty.
Tommy loved the front seat, though.
He sat and looked straight out the front window.

When I was going to make a turn or go around a sharp curve, I would say, “Hold On.”
And you know what? After a while, when I’d say, “Hold On,” he’d brace himself. Yep. He’d push his paws out further like he’s “Bracing” himself.

When we got home, I noticed that Tommy had a little Spring in his Step after going for a ride. Yep.

So, I think I’ll take “Tommy the Dawg” a little more often when I go out. Short trips, you know. At least for now.

And…, I noticed a little Spring in my Step too.
