Turkey Creek

—Turkey Creek—

I recently visited the famous Turkey Creek.

—She is a great Creek with Great Water. Clean and Cold. Very Cold.

Most of my Family grew up on the Creek.

My Granddaddy Rocks house sat close to the Creek.
And my Tot Tot’s house was also close to the Creek.

When my Dad was young, the Family didn’t have their own “Well Water.” So, they used the Neighbor’s Well water.

Daily, Dad would wash off with water that he poured into a bowl.—Water gotten from the Neighbor’s “Well.”
He used a Wash Cloth, a bar of soap, and a Bowl-Of-Water to clean hisself up.

Then, once a week or so, they would take a Bath in an oversized Metal Tub.
They got the water from the Neighbors Well, heated it on the Stove, and filled the Tub.
Then Five Boys would take a bath in the Tub—one at a time.
—my Dad said he was always first. He was the oldest, after all. And I got that part of this Story from him.

During the hotter months, my Dad would take a bar of soap and a towel down to Turkey Creek and bathe in the Creek.

My Mother and her Siblings also grew up on Turkey Creek.
Unlike my Dad, though, they had their own “Well.”

The Creek is where many kids in the area swam and Bathed. The woods are where they Played.
It’s where they’d sit and think. —Many life decisions have been made from the banks of Turkey Creek.

The Creek is Magical.

If you haven’t been to the “Turkey Creek Nature Preserve,” you should try to visit if you can.

Some of my Family Members helped put together the “Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.” Other families in the area were instrumental as well.

Growing up, the “Nature Preserve” didn’t exist.
I’m glad it’s there. Something So Precious should get Preserved.
The “Preserve” only covers a small portion of Turkey Creek.

As you drive through, there are several Gravel Parking Spots for you to stop, get out, and visit the Creek.
You can also Swim.
Many Families head to the Creek to Swim.

The Builders placed Picnic Tables and Benches to Sit on throughout the Preserve.
Hiking Trails are also throughout the place.
The Preserve lives off of Donations. There is no fee to enter.

I cannot give it justice with the vocabulary that I have.
And for that, I apologize.

Aw, the Creek has so many stories. —Good and Bad.
Research it, and you’ll learn a lot.

As I said earlier, my Mom and Dad, Aunts, and Uncles grew up on Turkey Creek.
It was the water they used.
It was the place they played and Bathed.

And when I was young, my Brothers and I went to the Creek all the time. It is a special place—to me— And others.

I loved to go there as a Child because it meant that I could take my Diaper off, get in the inner tube, sit, float, and relax. That was big for me. And Snakes didn’t bother me at all… (I had to add some humor)

My “Thomas” family, “Rock” family, “Labore” family, and many others still live on the Creek.

Recently, I had gotten myself in a “Funk.”
So, …I went back to The Creek.
I sat. I thought. And I listened to the sounds made by the Creek as I watched it flow—and I got out of my funk.

Turkey Creek: It is a Special Place.

Love you,

–Lynn
