—Small Town Life—
I love living in a Small Town.
Today, I was carrying my Niece, “Niece #2,” to school.
As I’m driving, I see a Fire Truck with its lights on coming up behind me.
I turn my Hazards on and pull to the side of the road to let it pass.
I drive another mile and come up on a wreck.
Cars are backed up about 100 yards. I look at the clock and see that it’s 7:25 AM.
I say a silent Prayer for the person(s) involved in the wreck.
“What time does ‘Homeroom’ start?” I ask Niece #2.
“They’ll hold it for the wreck,” She replies.
“They’ll know about the wreck and hold ‘Homeroom’ for the Students?”
“Yea…” She says.
I grin and smile. “I love small towns,” I think to myself.
That probably wouldn’t happen in a Big City.
I pull up to the drop-off at her school.
“Have a good day. Love you.”
“Love you, too,” She says, and she gets out and goes into the building. I drive off.
At the local “Dollar General” the employees are unpacking boxes and stocking the shelves.
They’ve been unpacking our local Dollar General ever since it got built.
We are supposedly getting a local “Dollar General Market” built a couple of miles up the road beside the High School.
Some people have joked, “Can we just unpack the “DG” we have before building another one?”
A new DG won’t stop me from coming to this one. It’s closer and has everything I go to “DG” for.
If I need actual Groceries, I’ll go to the local “Pig.”
“You having a good morning today?” the girl asks me.
I give her a thumbs up and a smile.
“How about you? Your morning going well?” I ask.
She gives me a thumbs up and a smile.
“Great!” I reply.
The Dollar General is the only place I go where I will use the Self Check-Out.
At other places, I feel I’m participating in helping the company not hire someone to run the register.
At the Local “DG,” though, I know they aren’t going to fire the one person they have working even if everyone uses the Self Check-Out.
I mean, they need someone to unpack the boxes. Right?
I ring my items up and pay with my Debit Card.
As I’m walking out, the girl stops unpacking, looks at me, and gives me a thumbs-up.
I give her a thumbs-up back and head out to my vehicle.
I love living in a Small Town.
