B-I-N-G-O

The Huddle House.

My blood sugar has been acting up, and I’ve learned that steak and potatoes help get it back in shape.
All Diabetics learn about their body and how to help their blood sugar as life goes by.

I enter and sit at the bar where I usually sit.
A handful of people are there.

I usually eat at Breakfast, but today, I’m eating a little after 3 pm. It’s Monday.

While I looked at the menu, I heard a waitress calling out numbers.
I was paying that no attention, though.

I put the menu away since I knew what I wanted. A Steak.
I order my Steak, Hashbrowns with Onions, and a Side Salad, with Honey Mustard Dressing on the side—tea to drink.
Texas Toast comes with it.

While I wait for my food, I turn to look at the waitress who is calling numbers out.

“B-36, B-36,” She says.
I realize they are playing Bingo.
I can’t remember the last time I played Bingo. I wait for the game to end.
Finally, someone yells, “Bingo!.”

While they got ready to play the next game, I asked the waitress if I could get in on the fun.
She tells me I can and goes on to tell me that if I win just one game, my meal is free. I was definitely in.

She gave me my card and my meal also arrived.
I turned to see who was playing. It was mostly retirees.
One was wearing a Vietnam Veteran Hat.
They all look like Gentle Souls. Very happy.
I say to them all, “Y’all watch out. I brought my Lucky Hat with me today.”
They laugh and welcome me into the game.

I slowly eat my meal while also playing Bingo. I played a good three or four games but didn’t win.

After it was over, the waitress told me they play Bingo every Monday between 3 pm and 4 pm.
I have to buy my food before I play, but if I win, my food is free.
She said all the people today were her usuals. She also said that I fit right in with them.
“They took to you,” She said.

I think I have something to do on Mondays between 3 and 4 pm.
