—The Event – Part II—
I sat in the Suite, sipping my Diet Coke and waiting.
—Waiting to meet a bunch of people I had never met. I was nervous about this.
Still, I patiently sat and watched the Arena from the Suite.
My Uncle “Unc!” texted me and said they had arrived and were walking to the Civic Center and would be there momentarily.
I watched as the Road Crew sat the stage up. Most of the stage was already set up. They were putting together the last bit of the stage.
I sat, sipped, and waited.
“Unc!” walks in, and I scream, “Unc!!”
See, his name already has one exclamation point. So, I had to add the second one when I wrote that line. I hope it didn’t drive you crazy seeing two exclamation points. Anyway, I digress.
While hugging “Unc!,” two more people walk in. A husband and wife.
My Uncle introduces me.
It turns out that my Uncle “Unc!” talks about me quite a bit. They already knew all about me and many things about me. I hugged them.
Then, two more and two more walk into the Suite. Unc! introduces me, and Couple after Couple has heard all about me.
I was feeling much more comfortable being around everyone.
In all, Sixteen People walked in, and I was introduced to all of Unc!’s Friends.
They asked questions about stories they had heard. Many of the stories you’ve read here, and many I have not posted. Some you will read here, and some you will read in the book I am slowly writing.
And I’ll add here that I will not be sharing anyone’s names or pictures. I mean, what happens in the Suite stays in the Suite.
We all began eating the Hot Wings and Pretzel Balls.
I kept a Diet Coke in my hand.
We all talked, laughed, and cut up.
Our Waiter kept the Hot Wings and Pretzels stocked up.
We talked about “Andy Griffith” and Mt. Airy, NC.
I’m telling you, I fit right in.
I voluntarily told them that I no longer drank, and most of those stories were from my drinking days.
When asked why I stopped, I said, “Well, I no longer have a bladder. So, some changes had to be made.”
“That’ll do it!” One says back.
“Yep,” I replied.
“Well, tell us about the strip club. You wanna dance?” One says while laughing.
I looked down and turned a bit red in the face.
“That’s a story in my Book,” I say back.
All of these guys and gals had taken me in and made me one of them.
I felt loved.
And I felt comfortable around them all.
I looked at my Uncle and said, “You know, Unc! Some of these stories were supposed to be between you and me,” I said as I laughed.
We hugged. I kissed my Uncle on the head and said, “I Love you, Unc!”
Coming up next were the bands “Whiskey Myers” and “Hank Williams Jr.”
I sipped on my Diet Coke and got ready for the Event—the Concert.
