The Front Porch

Sitting on the Front Porch is one of the Great things about living in the South.
You’ve seen it on “The Andy Griffith Show.”
Andy, Aunt Bee, and Opie just sitting on the Front Porch.
Andy may pick the Guitar up to play it.
Opie might be playing with Wooden Blocks.
Yet, they sit there calmly and peacefully. Sometimes talking. Sometimes not speaking a word. Just sittin’.
One of the things that made that show so good was its truthfulness.
Its truthfulness about the South, Southern Families, and Southern Living.

Today, I took my Dad to my Aunt and Uncle’s house to do just that—Sit on the Porch.
Outside on the Porch, my Uncle has several Bird Feeders.
He has the Feeders positioned in just the right spot for him to sit in his chair and see the Birds as they eat from his Feeders.
The birds were all chirping today, and my aunt and Uncle could tell what kind of bird they were just by the chirps.

Turkey Creek runs right below, and acres and acres of woods surround their property, making their location just right for Wildlife.
And they do have a lot of Wildlife.

Of course, we talked while sitting on the Porch.
We discussed everything from Birds to Baseball to Fights they’ve been in throughout their life.
They had me beat in the number of fights they’d been in.

Afterward, Dad and I went to “Ken’s BBQ” off Highway 79 to eat lunch.
I was going to take pictures and write about “Kens,” but my phone battery went dead. I guess it wasn’t meant to be.
“Kens” has been open since 1970 and has delicious food.

While at “Kens,” one of Dad’s friends came to say, “Hey.”
Then, he got a chair and sat with us, and we talked about gardening.
He was growing the same type of tomatoes as I am and gave me tips on my tomatoes.
They then began telling some stories from years past.
Stories even involving my Tot Tot (Dad’s Father).

On the way home, Dad said, “This was fun. Let’s try to do this more often.”
And we agreed on once a week.

And it was a Great Day.

Love you,

–Lynn
