Valentine’s 2024

On the 14th of February, I visited my local “Dollar General.”
If you’ve kept up with my journals, you’ve probably figured out that I am a loyal customer at the local “DG.” I’ve written many stories about the Place.
They all know me there and have always been great to me.

I walk in and head to the “Coke” section.

I see a younger man, maybe in his late 20s to early 30s, frantically going through the Hallmark Cards. He has two or three Red Roses in his hand and a box of Chocolates in a red heart-shaped box.

I stop and quickly ask, “Is it Valentine’s Day?”

“Yep,” he says.

“Dangit. Thank you,” I reply.

I continue to the Coke Section, grab a Six-Pack of Diet Coke, and head back to the “Card” Section.

While looking at the Cards, I got an idea and decided to be Spontaneous and do something Special.

The Cards are all in Categories such as “Wife” or “Husband, ” Then “Mom” or “Dad.” I perused the “Anybody” Section of the Cards. I decided on one Card and grabbed it.
I then headed to the Gift Card Section.

I grabbed a “Dollar General” Gift Card in the Gift Card Section. You can put as much money into it as you like.
I then head to the Front Counter to pay.

“The Gals,” as I refer to them, are at the Front.
We Joke and laugh and Chit-Chat.
I ask for a pen and tell her to put $30 on the “DG” Gift Card.
While she is ringing me up, I write on the Card, “Y’all are Great! Happy Valentine’s Day, Lynn.”

She finished ringing me up, including the Card, and I paid. I also finish putting the Card into its envelope.

I then hand “The Gals” the signed Card and the “DG” Gift Card and say, “This is for y’all. You can split the Gift Card.”

A big Smile grows on both of their faces—a smile so big you could see all their teeth. They come over and Hug and Thank me.
As I leave, we all tell each other, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

And it was one of the best Valentine’s Day in recent memory.

Love you,

–Lynn
