Bottle Rockets and BB Guns

—Do Not Try This Anywhere. Ever.—

I had a great childhood. Actually, I’ve had a great life.
I mean, for the cards I got dealt, ages Zero thru 20 were somewhat “normal.”—and fun.
It’s all because I had a great support system.

Growing up, I played everything from chase to Bottle Rocket War and BB-Gun War.
I went Squirrel Hunting, Fishing, Coon Hunting, and, my favorite, Dove Hunting.
My friend “Donny” once shot and killed two doves with one shot.

And we didn’t hunt and fish just for fun. We also ate everything we caught and shot.

By the time I was twelve, I knew how to clean and cook Dove, Squirrel, Bream, Catfish, and Bass.

My friend Donny and me would meet, after school, at the train tracks with our .22s and head down the tracks to hunt.

We would shoot enough doves for each of us to take back to the house and eat.
I had a great way of cooking Doves too. —Wrap them in bacon and brush on some BBQ Sauce. Then cook them in the oven. Mmm-mmm.

Bottle Rocket War wasn’t just Bottle Rockets. Nope.
We allowed Smoke Bombs and Roman Candles along with the Bottle Rockets.
We also allowed the use of PVC Pipe to shoot our Bottle Rockets out of.
To use the PVC Pipe, you would have to light the Bottle Rocket, drop it in the pipe, hoist it up on your shoulder, and aim. Easy. And very effective.

One time I had my bag of Fireworks sitting on the ground next to me.
In slow motion, I watched a Bottle Rocket land right in my bag full of Fireworks. My eyes grew big. I ran and dove to the ground.
I had my head covered when I heard all of my Fireworks blowing up in the bag. Then, I heard one Fella scream, “Fire!”
Long story short, the Fire Department had to get called. Twice.

And BB Gun War? That’s a story for another day.

What am I getting at? I’m not sure. I’ve had plenty of bad things happen to me in life.
But, I guess I’m getting at this: Even with a “Disability,” I’ve had a good life. —A fun life.

And I’m pretty sure it all started with my Support System.
Good Family and Friends. Who included me.
